A. Machine Design

  1. A device for sand roasting and puffing of grains – The sand does not come out of the device and heat of the sand is preserved in successive operation of roasting and puffing, which in turn, results in ease of operation, minimises the cost of operation and improves capacity.

  2. Recirculatory hot air tray dryer – A dryer was developed in which part of air is re-circulated for the drying of fruits and vegetables at higher humidity. This enhances the product quality as well as saves energy. The design, drawing and technical know-how was sold to M/s SSP Ltd., Faridabad through O.O. No. IIT/SRIC/AgFE/98-99/53 dated September 21, 1998.

  3. Whirling bed pneumatic hot air puffing device – The puffing device is used for puffing of cold extruded millet based snack foods.

  4. Continuous air puffer for millets – This device is specially used for puffing small grains like amaranth and other millets.

 

B.  Technology Development

  1. Dehydration of vegetables/leafy vegetables – The technology(s) have been developed for dehydration of cauliflower, cabbage, spinach, coriander and fenugreek leaves, green chilli, green mango and demonstrated to various Self Help Group members and farmers during various ‘Krishi Mela’ and to various dignitaries who visited the department at different times. The technology is widely acclaimed.

  2. A Low‑cost Food Formulation – A food formulation comprising of maize (727g) and soybean (73g), is specially designed for the hard working people of Bihar and UP, fulfils the minimum daily dietary intake.

  3. Ripe fruit pulp powder – Foam mat dried ripe mango/bael/sapota pulp powder(s) were developed.

 

C.  Software Development

Software was developed to find out;

  1. First and second order regression equation

  2. Optimum combination of independent variables for maximum/minimum response

  3. Nature of the point of optimum response

  4. Fixation of the level of independent variables if optimum is not obtained.
